Historic San Antonio stone home built by trailblazing woman developer is for sale

A historic Spanish-style home with a stone exterior just hit the market for $2.4 million in Olmos Park — and a trailblazing woman developer was behind its 1927 construction.

Amye Bozarth shook up the burgeoning real estate market of 1920s San Antonio, armed with a business slogan that she built "homes, not houses." Despite defying social norms, Bozarth earned accolades for bringing a "woman's touch" to a male-dominated field, according to a 2022 Express-News article on her career.

That finesse is evident throughout the newly listed 5,800-square-foot Olmos Park mansion, which retains its original hardwoods and intricately patterned Redondo tile floors.

A grand staircase in the foyer features a rope railing, a signature of Spanish Colonial revivalists such as legendary SA architect Atlee Ayers, a collaborator of Bozarth's. Also in view immediately upon entering the home, ornate carvings frame an arched doorway and a large fireplace in the living room. Similar carvings continue in the nearby dining room, framing the stucco walls with added texture.

An additional living space on the first floor is bathed in light from a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, which can be enjoyed from the breakfast counter adjoining the space with the kitchen.

Throughout the house, textures and patterns interplay in a distinctly bougie-bohemian fashion. However, contrasting with the historic details throughout, bold jungle-patterned wallpaper greets the eye in the master bath and offers a more contemporary touch.

Each of the house's four bedrooms comes with its own bath, appearing to make the space ideal for AirBnB or guest retreats. The primary bedroom also comes with a huge walk-in closet and its own sitting room.

This home is listed by Kristin Kellum with Phyllis Browning Co.
