The Frost Bank Center provided the perfect backdrop for the sold-out reunion show, and Alamo City fans were there for a night of hard-rocking nostalgia.
Finger Eleven started off the show with a bang. The group's energetic frenzy brought the audience to its feet during “One Thing” and set closer “Paralyzer.”
3 Doors Down has the kind of songs fans never forget the words to. To that end, the band's setlist consisted of some of its best-known songs, including “Loser” and “Here Without You." But as soon as the opening drum beats of Three Doors Down's biggest hit, “Kryptonite,” thundered through the arena, members of the crowd were on their feet and singing at the top of their lungs.
As the Frost Bank Center lights went out following the opening bands' sets, the name "CREED" appeared on the stage's video screens. The word flashed slowly, and the crowd chanted it in time.
Finally, Creed appeared onstage. Vocalist Scott Stapp crouched, holding the mic stand. It looked as if he was poised to attack as the band launched into "Bullets," a track from 2001’s Weathered. Everyone sang along.
“My Own Prison” left the audience in awe. Stapp’s huge voice blasted from the sound system, and fans sang along, matching the volume. Six-stringer Mark Tremonti told the audience he was going to give away a guitar to the loudest, craziest audience member right before the song “What If.” The winner, a small boy who was there with his parents, took the instrument home. But not before Tremonti made the parents promise to get him guitar lessons.
Tastes may have moved on since Creed's heyday and the band may never have been popular with critics, but SA welcomed it back with arms wide open. Doubtless, plenty of folks in the Frost Bank Center crowd were left hoping the group comes back again soon.
