U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico is back on the campaign trail Friday after a nasty bout with the flu, his campaign confirmed.
Talarico’s first stop? The Austin City Limits Festival, where videos posted on social media platform X show him mingling with concertgoers and posing for selfies.
Talarico’s return comes after right-wing talking heads, including failed Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt, cited anonymous sources insisting the Austin-area state rep was locked away in a mental health facility after a breakdown.
One Twitter account even baselessly speculated that Talarico had attempted suicide.
Talarico’s campaign maintains that he was diagnosed with the flu after a visit to an urgent care facility in Dallas late last month.
In a virtual appearance with the United States Hispanic Business Council on Sept. 30, a visibly ill Talarico apologized for not being able to attend in person due to his bout with the flu, which he blamed on “shaking too many hands on the campaign trail.”
Now that the former San Antonio schoolteacher is back on the campaign trail, he’s set to participate in a CNN town hall on Oct. 14.
This week, Talarico also accepted President Donald Trump’s challenge to debate Ken Paxton. Even so, Paxton hasn’t said whether he’ll commit to facing Talarico.
Early voting runs Oct. 19-30. Election Day is Nov. 3.
