Rock guitar god Pat Travers’ over-the-top shredding may have fallen out of fashion, but he’s still out there melting faces. Lord Huron
Call it indie-rock, Americana or country-tinged slow jams, but Lord Huron has a knack for creating tracks that prompt listeners to ponder the meaning of life or yearn for lost love. The California act hit big when its song “The Night We Met” was included in a significant emotional scene of the popular — and controversial — Netflix series 13 Reasons Why. The band’s latest album, The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1, shows it experimenting with its sound by leaning into psychedelic and even Goth sensibilities. $97-$358.50, 8 p.m., Majestic Theatre, 224 E. Alex Maas, Mohama Saz, Ponder
Maas is best known as frontman for Austin’s Black Angels, but as a solo artist he treads more varied ground, incorporating both Eastern scales and unconventional instrumentation, while bringing an emotional and personal tone to the songs. Spain’s Mohama Saz, meanwhile, explores a similar vibe — hypnotic, enveloping, extended jams — all while incorporating melodies and scales that veer far from blues-based rock conventions. $18, 8 p.m., Lonesome Rose, 2114 N. AC/DC
When it comes to crowd-pleasing hard rock, AC/DC is beyond legendary, having perfected its formula back in the ’70s, updated it again circa Back in Black and otherwise left it well alone. The Fixx
The Fixx carved out a space on FM rock radio that landed it on the rock side of the early-’80s new wave boom. Songs such as “One Thing Leads to Another,” “Saved by Zero” and “Red Skies” still resonate today, and the band continues to create new music, having dropped the album Every Five Seconds in 2022.
