"All I need to make a comedy is a park, a policeman, and a pretty girl," said Charles Chaplin. But that was then — today, all you need is a camera, at least one actor, and a few pancakes.

According to its website, the International Pancake Film Festival started in 2007 as the world's only "pancake-based film festival, showing films and videos with a good portion of their length dedicated to flapjacks." This year's festival is dubbed "The Haunted House of Pancakes" and is looking for shorts (ideally no longer than five minutes) dealing with pancakes and Halloween. The festival will do a mini national tour with a stop in San Antonio October 13 at Unit B gallery. If want to be part of it, submit your films (Quicktime preferred) to Damon W. Bishop, 32 Crescent St., Room 7C, Somerville, MA 02145. There is no entry fee, and you have until September 20.

"Most likely all work submitted would be shown," it reads in the festival's website. If the festival receives more submissions than expected, "we'll turn it into some sort of Pancake Woodstock (hopefully not a Pancake Altamont)."
