Gotta say we're all grins one of our own got top honors across multiple categories this year for churning out some of San Antonio's snarkiest shit hitting the web and stage (watch where you step, Jay). A fixture comic in the local scene, Whitecotton often turns to his Current-hosted blog to talk San Antonio comedy. Still, our insides turn to jelly whenever he turns his sarcasm gun on the day's headlines, including Ron Paul rallies, the NFL, and the Penn State child molestation scandal. When Penn students rioted over the firing of their beloved Joe Paterno, Whitecotton delivered this brilliant line: "Luckily we have the students of Penn State to voice their concerns and stand against those that would fire their beloved Joe Paterno — not only the most successful coach in college football history, but a man who can ignore the repeated molestations of children by a deviant child rapist." Luckily, we have Jay. … Also lucky to have Jay are the number of folks who nominated his Bitter Karaoke tops in the city. While hefty purses suggest a certain professionalism lining up by the stage, a peek at Bitter's Facebook page brings us back to earth with a suggestion that "Mr. Jay Whitecotton will … guide you along as we journey to depths of mediocrity and poor life choices." What's a song stylist to do? It's enough to drive you to drink, and then sing. Good times.
