The Offspring: 'Days Go By'
Published: July 3, 2012
The Offspring came roaring into our collective consciousness with “Come Out and Play,” the hit song about gangs included in 1994’s Smash. Surprisingly, the SoCal band’s bigger hits (“Why Don’t You Get a Job” and “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)”) were anything but punk. On Days Go By, the band is even more diverse than before. Keeping to their hardcore roots, many of the tracks are made to fist-pump when they play live. Yet the band likes to have a little bit of fun on tracks such as “Cruising California (Bumping in my Trunk)” and “OC Guns,” which are the kind of songs that stick in your head and won't go away. I swore at times I was listening to Linkin Park, the Cult, or Foo Fighters, but as soon as Dexter Holland’s voice comes in Offspring's thumb is in your face. Days Go By is made-to-order summer road-trip music.
