Single of the Week: Pujol "Providence"
Published: June 6, 2012
Pujol "Providence"
(from The United States of Being, released June 5)
(Saddle Creek)
★★★ (out of 5 stars)
The first single from Pujol's debut full-length draws from the emergent Nashville garage-punk scene with simple impressionistic lyrics and staccato rhythms. It's not until late in the song, when the guitar flourishes come to the fore and Daniel Pujol unleashes a loopy falsetto, that its pop charm starts to emerge in what is worth noting as a good first step towards significance.
