Aural Pleasure Review

Pop Pistol: 'Animal Prisms'

Photo: , License: N/A

Animal Prisms — Pop Pistol's sophomore LP — manages to transcend influences, technical roadblocks, and the contemporary music milieu to find its own cosmic sonic niche. On this record, the band perfects an eerily comfortable chaos — a full to bursting sound that rewardingly blends brooding electronic moods, sturdily mechanical drum and bass, wandering prog-rock guitar explorations, and Alex Scheel's singularly penetrating tenor. Anchored by pounding yet soaring hybrid jaunts like "Xes Xes," "Coyote," and "Strings," Animal Prisms — with its electro head and indigenous dirt heart — is an impeccably energetic and thoughtfully engrossing experience.
