Aural Pleasure Review
Nas: 'Life is Good'
Published: July 25, 2012
Though universally considered one of the greats, Nas has worked, to some extent, in the shadow of Biggie and 2Pac since his rapturous emergence in 1994. Now, with the release of Life is Good, he's made his best record since 2001's Stillmatic, and he sits alone atop the proverbial throne. I'm not out to argue against dead folks, so let's just say that this record boasts more adept street storytelling, more candor, greater variation in timing, more earnest fire and charisma, deeper self-knowledge, and a wider subject-matter than recent work by any rapper alive. It's that good.
