It's only conjunto, but Dutch kids like it. Dwayne Verheyden channeling Flaco Jiménez.

Next time anyone tells you conjunto is dead or just a regional thing, just say two words: Dwayne Verheyden.

The Flaco Jiménez-loving Dutch kid, who's not even 21 yet, stole the show at last year's Tejano Conjunto Festival and is poised to do the same when he returns (for the fourth straight year) to play alongside Max Baca and Los Texmaniacs on Sunday night. Even though Verheyden plays anything from tangos to pasodoble and waltzes, his passion is Tex-Mex and he leads his own band, The TexMeXplosion. Watching him live will be a highlight in a night filled with top-notch conjunto.

"There are many imitators and sound-a-likes, but none can compare to Dwayne Verheyden; and he's from the Netherlands," Flaco Jiménez told sastreettalk.com in 2009.

You heard it from the man. Now check him out yourself.
