Chico Ocaña: 'Canciones de mesa camilla'

Photo: , License: N/A

In his first solo album, the ferocious singer of the disbanded Mártires del Compás (the coolest, edgiest alternative flamenco band ever) continues what he did with his old band: create an offbeat, unpredictable mix of flamenco, reggae, and pop, all done with a rock attitude — minus Mártires' tango touches. The album was originally released in 2010 and he's due for a new one, but this music doesn't age: get this one now and don't forget the lesson he offers in "Alegrías sin sal": "Drugs kill, but having a misstep with that mulato girl kills even more."

★★★ ½ (out of 5 stars)
