Andrew Espinola: 'Into the Drink' EP

Newly transplanted from Austin to San Antonio, singer-songwriter Andrew Espinola makes direct and refreshing songs that are best classified as alt-country or indie pop-folk. On his debut EP, Espinola sings about love lost, the fight for dying innocence, and corporate culture (on the excellent "A Place in the Country") in his barely sweet everyman's voice. Though his bio mentions Wilco and Ryan Adams as signposts to his sound, Espinola (thankfully) reminds me as much of legendary Texas music man Bruce Robison. You can — and totally should — stream Into the Drink on andrewespinola.com ahead of its official release on September 4.
