Disco Wasteland

6 bucks! 6 bands! 6 years!

That's how Artslam! 6 is announcing its first half-dozen years in operation. The all-ages event is this Saturday at the White Rabbit (2410 N St. Mary's) and goes from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. As in the previous five years, Artslam! 6 is a communion of music and the arts, and this year will be no different.

Disco Wasteland (Love Hate Affair's Michael Arriaza on bass and vocals; Anthony Trinidad on drums; and Kick It!'s Jeremy Rhodes on keyboards) will be celebrating the release of The EP, an eight-track recording they describe as "high energy electro-clash and dance punk." Other bands in the bill include Viet-Ruse, The Hawks (of Holy Rosary), Sohns, Murdered Out, Scum Allegiance, and DJ Louie Dollars.

On the arts side, there will be about 40 local artists showcasing their work and a handful of illustrious guests: Alex Pardee (an L.A. writer and artist best known for his cover art work for The Used, zerofriends.com); Sacramento's all-around self-taught muralist Skinner (theartofskinner.com), and Brooklyn illustrator and sculptor L'Amour Supreme (yes, his name reflects his love for John Coltrane's A Love Supreme; no bad sign).

Also this Saturday: watch for reggae/rock outfit Lionize present its latest album, Superczar and the Vulture, with a show at the Korova ($12, 8 pm, 107 E Martin, all ages).

Also, Pop Pistol's almost ready to release its classic Angelus (2008) on vinyl, but the trio still needs a little help from their friends. Go to poppistol.com, donate $15, and reserve your copy of this limited run of 250 12-inch records, to include full-color artwork plus many extra goodies. I want mine.

Finally, before I forget: I'll be speaking at the Local 782 meeting at 7 p.m. tonight (Jan 25) at the Media Justice League/Local 782 office space (1414 E Commerce). The topic: "Earned media," or basic things musicians need to do to have a better chance to get press coverage. See ya there.
