Puro Pinche

Upon hearing the news of her win, Stephanie Guerra's eyes opened even wider than usual. "This is soooo awesome," she said. "It's a huge deal for me. People yell 'Puro Pinche!' at me in public, because the logo is my face, but this tells me a lot more people support us than I thought."

Launched almost two years ago, Puro Pinche is a San Antonio music events blog focused on things not usually covered by mainstream media. As is the case with most blogs, Guerra doesn't get paid; she does it out of pure love for the scene. In her case it's a particularly heavy task: she's a single mom, has two full-time jobs and two part-time jobs, and is a full-time communications student at UTSA. That, in great part, explains why the blog has plenty of music event postings and so little actual writing. But she hopes this recognition is a sign that help is on the way.

"I'd love for people to volunteer their time to Puro Pinche," she said. "I'd welcome anyone who'd love to design the website or do some writing or interning so I could have more time to write."
Write about what?

"Oh, don't get me started," she says. "I hate it when people say there's 'nothing to do' in San Antonio, because it's so not true, and it hasn't been true for such a long time." — EL
