Food Truck Throwdown

In a world of topsy-turvy food-health debates (Scientific American sides with salt; diet sodas linked to obesity?) some things still need to be settled the old-fashioned way. Sometimes you just need to throw down. So this weekend some of the city’s top food trucks will be competing for your vote at the Boardwalk on Bulverde (14732 Bulverde Rd). Haven’t been yet? Shame on you. But here’s your chance to make it up to yourself: the Food Truck Throwdown already has 15 teams signed up to go at it Friday and Saturday, and trucks from all over the state have been invited to compete.

While you’re out prowling the outer loop, go ahead and steer over to recently opened Boerne Stage Bakery and Ice Cream on the edge of Leon Springs (24200 I-10 West). We haven’t been ourselves yet, but they sent the cutest little handwritten note with a promise of “bluebonnet” scones. It couldn’t be any worse than the overabundant Starbucks (yes, there’s one across the highway), and they have their own cake pops, too.
