Flavor File: New Piatti slated for Eilan and Meatopia announces carnivorous menu

Hold on to your butts. Lots of food business to report: Piatti is adding another location on the Northwest Side of town at Eilan (17101 La Cantera Pkwy). The new 4,742-square foot restaurant, which specializes in Italian-inspired eats, is slated to open October 22. It will seat 204 guests and feature a barrel-to-table wine program. The mixed-use development currently houses Sustenio as its only restaurant.

Fattboy Burgers and Dogs (2345 Vance Jackson) also hopped closer to the Northwest Side with its second location. The burger joint is using the spot previously occupied by Gourmet Burger Grill, giving the restaurant a slightly corporate feel (in a good way). The menu is identical to the original location and the burgers are still a force to be reckoned with.

Chef Jeff Wiley stepped down as executive chef at Beat Street Coffee Co. and Bistro (2512 N Main Ave) to the devastation of food industry folks. Sous chef John Carpenter will replace Wiley’s inventive Spanish-tinged fare with a new Contemporary American menu, according to owner Henry Leman.

Meatopia released the menu for the November 3 event at the Pearl and it looks awesome. Look forward to short ribs with mole rub from Arcade’s Jesse Perez, braised stuffed breast of veal from Andrew Weissman, cabritos asados from La Gloria’s Johnny Hernandez and salt-crusted new potatoes with braised kale from Green Vegetarian Cuisine’s Mike Behrend. Austin’s Paul Qui will feature a pork-centric Filipino classic, sizzling sisig, and Tim Byres of Dallas’ Smoke and Food and Wine mag’s People’s Choice winner for Best New Chef, will serve Flannery Beef’s ultra-prime rib eye with chimichurri.

Private chef and caterer Mariah Delay Lange has been rolling out her little blue food shack behind TBA (2801 N St Mary’s) for the last few weekends with Italian meatball sandwiches and pork belly banh mi, and I’m hearing good things. Check it out for a late-night option and expect the menu to expand in the near future.

To help raise awareness for cancer research, Bohanan’s Restaurant & Bar (219 E Houston) will feature a pink drink throughout October. Proceeds from the “Causing Awareness,” made with gin, grapefruit juice, lime juice, house-made grenadine and bitters, will benefit the ThriveWell Cancer Foundation.

San Antonio College-area pizza fiends can finally hit up Main Street Pizza (1906 N Main) again. The beloved establishment underwent a lengthy renovation after an electric fire ravaged the building on June 29, but re-opened its doors on Monday.

Kudos to Cheesy Jane’s (4200 Broadway) which celebrated 13 years of dishing out juicy burgers in San Antonio at the end of September. The restaurant has a location in Boerne and two mobile food trucks.
