Coconut Meringue Pie at Earl Abel’s Restaurant, $4.27
A bite of what we're eating here at the Current
Published: September 14, 2011
After 80 years in business, Earl Abel’s Restaurant continues to excel at nostalgic diner cuisine. Baker Tony Sanchez has worked there for over 50 years and says they haven’t changed a thing. Of old Earl Abel himself, Sanchez said, “He wanted everything to be perfect, every day.” He’d be glad to know the coconut meringue pie, topped with toasted shreds and layered tall with meringue and custard, is still impeccable right down to the handmade crust.
