RX Bandits guitarist Steve Choi reflects on 16 years and one final tour

Music: To hear Steve Choi of RX Bandits tell it, there was never a proper sit-down about changing the sound of the SoCal third-wave ska group formed in 1995. There was no mission statement, no formal realization, no heady, late-night conversation over a bowl and brews. By Adam Villela Coronado 6/29/2011

Ah, the weekend morning. Birds chirping, pajamas lingering, and a shot of your finest bourbon, please. While farmers markets and 5Ks may cut it for those inclined towards a healthy lifestyle, even the fittest denizen of San Anto can't say no to a boozy brunch now and then. I checked out some local breakfast bars for when your day needs a swift kick in the rear.

Bombay Bicycle Club is where Trinity kids go for breakfast booze. A downtown hideaway with a daily happy hour from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., it's got something for everyone. A rotating cast of draft beers is on tap for just $2.25; well drinks, frozen margaritas, and domestic beers go for $3.25; and, my personal favorite, the Bloody Mary, is available for just $3.75 on "Bloody Sundays." 3506 North Saint Mary's, (210) 737-2411, bombaybicycleclubsa.com

For the doctors and nurses getting out of work as the sun comes up, there's the always weird Cobalt Club. A gay bar that opens at 7 a.m. daily welcomes all with its big red pool table, wooden wrap-around bar and enclosed back porch. Cobalt Club has some of the cheapest drinks I've ever encountered, and they're cheap all the time. If you're a whiskey-in-the-morning kinda guy or gal, this place slings it for just $2.50 a pour. Dangerous. 2022 McCullough, (210) 734-2244

And if you're looking for a River Walk dive to hide from the sun, check out Club Sirius, with happy hour kicking off at 10 a.m. Mon-Sat and noon on Sundays. Stocked with flat screens for sports lovers and a jukebox full of possibilities, Club Sirius is a great place to let loose. It offers a menu of over 100 shots, only $3.75 a piece on Thursdays and Sundays, ranging from the Elephant Fart to the Surfer on Acid. And don't be dissuaded by the word "club" in the title — this place is as hole-in-the-wall as it gets. 228 Losoya, (210) 223-3722, drinksirius.com
