Let's be honest. Ask any Mexican where to get the best tamales this side of the Rio Grande and nine out of 10 will say their own grandma's house. But if grandma is too busy crocheting a dress for her new grand baby or scoffing at the cleavage on Sabado Gigante to slap some masa on a husk, make your way down to Delicious Tamales, a family-owned business that's been around for over 30 years. Along with traditional tamales like chicken and pork, Delicious will cook up tamale poppers and some Southwestern Vegetarian tamales, which were a big hit with Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, who stopped in for a healthy bite about a year ago. Of owner Valerie Gonzalez, she said: "Valerie's influence in her community goes beyond the tasty food she serves."
