1. Heat
1500 N Main, (210) 227-2600, heatsa.com
Whether you're in search of high-energy dancing, no-nonsense cruising, or lip-synching, gender-bending Glamazons, Heat's got you covered. This pulsating playground boasts five boozing stations (including a stylish video-lounge and a split-level back patio) and rages into the wee hours with some of the freshest dance beats in town. Wednesdays and Thursdays, a rotating cast of showgirls (including Sweet Savage, Layla Larue, Taryn Taylor, and LynZ Lang assisted by an array of special guests) rule the roost with elaborately costumed drag shows that can incorporate anything from raunchy comedy to dance-fueled performance art. But when the weekend rolls around, Heat's all about dancing (including the shirtless variety), making it a party destination for all walks — regardless of orientation. Unless you're a regular or stay tuned to their website, you might miss out on touring DJs, outrageous theme parties, and visiting treats like transgender actress/icon Candis Cayne or rapper/recording artist Cazwell.
