Auden’s Kitchen’s generous all-day every-day happy-hour hours lean on well liquors that aren’t necessarily the ones you’d get at regular pricing, but the results are admirable regardless. Among the $5 trio of cocktails, you can disregard the blueberry mojito, but the cucumber martini (shaken with gin and muddled cuke) is light but good. The “España” margarita (left), which has nothing whatsoever to do with Spain, is an excellent blend of tequila, agave syrup, and fresh lime juice. There are also three wines at $4 (pass on the muscaty Alamoso Torrontés). Beers include Alamo Draft, Coors Light, and Shiner.
Of equal interest are menu items from $4 to $6. Zero in on the excellent Scotch egg (left), a soft-boiled egg encased in sausage and crumb wrapper. It’s served split with a mixed green salad (worth having) and a mayonnaise-like dip (that doesn’t add much). It’s a Brit-pub experience you must have. A $10 all-day bar menu of more substantial plates is also worth your attention if drink becomes dinner or lunch. Auden’s Kitchen, 700 E Sonterra, Ste 1117, (210) 494-0070, audenskitchen.com
