As a farewell treat for my yearlong internship at the Current, I was presented with a German chocolate cake from Central Market. This petite, silky, rot-your-teeth-sweet, indulgent morsel was my token of appreciation for a year of sitting in the quiet office entering calendar events; standing next to drunks in crowded, sweaty, smoky, venues; frantically scribbling down notes on bands for Live & Local, taking photos, editing video, and racking my brain trying to write album reviews worthy of Enrique Lopetegui’s approval. Saying auf wiedersehen is bittersweet, unless there’s bits of velvety milk chocolate and crunchy coconut stuck in your teeth.
