Dent May: 'Do Things'
Published: June 13, 2012
In a recent complaint from his twitter account (@dentmay), Dent May unwittingly summed up his new album’s character: “Call me chillwave one more time and see what happens. Mississippi boy packs heat.” Do Things is an album situated emotively somewhere between the specific malaise of a southern summer afternoon and the blurry joy of swimming through a city of lights. Part disco, part jam-band funk, and part Brian Wilson, the Mississippi crooner’s sophomore effort — with positively infectious standouts “Rent Money,” “Parents,” and “Home Groan” — is an odd bird … which is precisely what makes it fly so high.
