Sarah Brooke Lyons is the photographer behind the community art project 1,005 Faces. (She also shot the Current’s 2013 primary breadwinners cover story.) This popular collection of black-and-white portraits united diverse, unique San Antonians. “The most rewarding aspect of my job is to help people feel good about themselves through a portrait,” Lyons said. With 1,005 Faces, this working, single mother made the city feel good about itself.
