VERONICA SALINAS

1. Thai Dee
5307 Blanco, (210) 342-3622
thaideesa.com

Tucked off Blanco Road in a bland shopping strip lies a tasty secret that has been keeping SA foodies smiling for over a decade. Once you pass through the rough exterior, you'll find an extended range of spicy treats to please carnivore and veggie alike. Standouts include pumpkin in red curry, spicy grilled eggplant, and many dishes with basil (with or without meat). Prices are modest, and there's no liquor license, but a BYOB policy is happily indulged. Lunch specials pack the joint with regulars, but at odd times of the day you might see a celebrity or two. Local top chef Jason Dady is a confessed Thai Dee fan.

2. Tong's Thai

3. Thai Chili
