Unless you're allergic to water — it happens, google aquagenic urticaria — there's little not to love about San Pedro Springs Park. The city's oldest designated park — the second-oldest in the entire country — is situated on land reserved for public use by the Spanish government in the 18th century. To swim or wade in this naturally spring-fed, tree-lined swimming hole is to steep oneself in history: people have gathered here for sustenance and recreation for some 12,000 years, and Spanish explorers first established camps at the site in the 17th century. Renovations over the years have yielded a pristine environment for aquatics aficionados at this natural wonder 1.6 miles north of downtown. The Edwards Aquifer-fed public swimming pool and 46 surrounding acres continue to delight.
