Four-time NBA champion Tim Duncan has been the San Antonio Spurs' warhorse since he was drafted first overall by the team in 1997. This year, Duncan celebrates his quinceañera in the NBA as the team chases a fifth championship ring in a lockout-shortened season. While he's handed over the on-court leadership reins to point guard Tony Parker, who is having his own MVP-worthy season, the consistency of No. 21 is still as evident as it was during his rookie campaign. The national media will continue to call Duncan and the small-market Spurs "old" and refer to each season as their last chance at a championship, but the truth is until Duncan decides to hang it up, the silver and black will always break into the postseason focused on the only thing that matters: taking home another Larry O'Brien trophy. "As long as I'm healthy, as long as I'm effective, I'm taking it as it comes," Duncan recently told the New York Times. "It's been a great year for me. Minutes are down. As a competitor, I want to play more, but honestly, I can't beat feeling as healthy as I do." As far as Duncan's celebrity status is concerned, you can't get much more un-celebrity in professional sports than Timmy D. Never one for the spotlight, Duncan seems just fine knowing he's not going to have TMZ following him through La Cantera. He'd never do what LeBron James did back in 2010 and make a mockery of free agency or what Dwight Howard did this year by turning on his team and demanding a trade. He's a superstar without a super ego and for that San Antonio is thankful.
