Best Fajitas

1. Alamo Café
14250 San Pedro, (210) 495-2233, alamocafe.com

We wracked our brains over this one. Fajitas are pretty much all the same, no? Kinda like huevos rancheros. Our mind then drifted to a certain middle sister's wedding rehearsal dinner here nearly 20 years ago when we ordered sizzling fajitas — both chicken and beef because, hey, it was a wedding approaching. We were greeted with a platter that was at once tender and juicy, served with requisite peppers and onions, and a generous guacamole side portion. Yes, yes! We still see it in our mind's eye! Nicely seasoned, and the spacious banquet room enhanced the ambience, making for a moveable fajita feast. That middle sister showered in Alamo Cafe's abundance now lives in New Braunfels, happily married to the same guy, with five kids. Maybe there's something special about these fajitas after all.
