ESSENTIALS 210

1. The Brooklynite
516 Brooklyn, (210) 444-0707, thebrooklynitesa.com

Your choices show you’re savvy to our nascent cocktail culture, San Antonio, no arguments from our drink experts on these. But putting Jeret Peña’s establishment on top shows a special refinement. Even before launching The Brooklynite last year, Peña racked up national honors with a Rising Star Mixologist award from Starchefs.com and a James Beard Outstanding Bar Program nomination (at his previous gig with The Esquire). Now that he’s got his own place, he’s more than proved his promise, staffing this retro-focused spot by the river with some of the suavest young bartenders in town.

2. Bar 1919

3. Blue Box Bar
