Out-of-state tuition costs
Let’s face it, going to college means accepting the fact that for the next four to eight years you’re probably going to be in the hole money-wise. The question is how deep: close enough to the top where you can pull yourself out with a little maneuvering, or so far down that you can see a sky full of stars in the middle of the day?
More moolah
Colleges are notorious for providing in-state students with better financial opportunities. After all, their taxpayers are your parents.
Living with the 'rents
Don't think of it as being that guy/girl who still lives at home. Think of is being that guy/girl who saved additional money by not having to pay the boarding fee. Think of the benefits: free laundry, home-cooked meals, water, electricity, and a built-in support system for when you decide to change your major for the third time!
Avoiding homesickness
Don’t think you’re above this! Homesickness can hit at any time. And what are you supposed to do when your family is hundreds, maybe thousands of miles away?
Staying close to friends
When we graduate most of us have at least one high school friend we want to stay connected with. You can’t have movie nights on Facebook, and “liking” a status update doesn’t count as quality time.
Home for the holidays
We wish you a merry two days of packing, a seven-hour flight with a layover in Arizona, and costly taxi ride back to your house because your folks were either still at work/school or out shopping for presents. Are we having fun yet?
Home court advantage
You already have your favorite restaurants and hang-out spots. Do you really want to spend additional time and effort looking for new ones? Besides, I doubt you’ll find many Tex-Mex restaurants in Baltimore.
Stormy weather (snowy, rainy, etc.)
South Texas weather is at least predictable. Do you really want the chaos that comes with having four full seasons? We didn’t think so.
More lazy time
Don’t forget that if you attend an out-of-state college you have to head back early to move into the dorms. That’s less time you have to loaf, lounge, and nap, which is really what summer is all about, right?
