1. The Spirit of Healing
by Jesse Treviño
Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital, 333 N Santa Rosa

The Westside is famous for the almost 100 community murals that have gone up in the neighborhoods during the last few decades, but downtown's soaring art work on the side of the Santa Rosa Children's Hospital still holds the affection of many in the the city. Designed by Jesse Treviño, The Spirit of Healing is a sentiment that Treviño well understands. Treviño studied at the famous Art Students League in New York before being drafted to military service in Vietnam, where he lost his right hand after an explosion. He learned to paint with his left hand, and went on to become one of the most respected Chicano artists in the country, portraying SA in scenes of family and neighborhood.
