Best City Park

1. Brackenridge Park
3700 N St. Mary's, (210) 207-7275, sanantonio.gov/parksandrec

Even with so many choices, this one came as no surprise. The 344-acre park is one of the jewels of San Antonio with the San Antonio Zoo as its centerpiece. The Sunken Garden Theatre is located here too, offering a unique staging area for artistic expression. Added amenities such as a softball field and play areas for the kiddies add to its allure. Adjacent to the theatre is arguably the park's most beautiful feature — the Japanese Tea Garden (a natural Best Makeout Spot winner) with abundant floral displays, waterfall, and koi habitat. Surrounded by such flora and fauna, it's hard to imagine the site once housed a circa-1899 rock quarry before its present, resplendent re-use. On holidays, denizens camp out at Brackenridge all night to stake out picnic tables for family gatherings. It's easy to understand why they sacrifice sleep to descend on the place, this is an oasis smack in the middle of town.

2. Phil Hardberger Park

3. McAllister Park
