Art Note: Canales gets pricked in 'Baile esta Cactus'

"Have you ever been involved with a lady?" asked performance artist Jimmy James Canales after his live show at cactus bra SPACE last Thursday. The unannounced performance occurred during the opening reception for Baile esta Cactus, Canales's new video exhibition at the gallery. While the crowd preened and gossiped, the artist spoke tensely to a raven-haired young woman in the corner. She stared back at him, said nothing, then drank from her glass. Suddenly she spat, and a torrent of red wine hit Canales in the face, followed by the rest of the glass before he stormed out the room. Forcing his way back in, he muttered, "I just don't understand why you got to do this shit. It was one night. One fucking night!" See the video online at the Artifacts blog at blogs.sacurrent.com.
